Sixth hosts seventh in the Premier League this weekend as Jose Mourinho’s Spurs travel to Molineux to take on a Wolves side who are unbeaten in their last 11 league games.

Wolves’ impressive run, one that can only be bettered by table-toppers Liverpool, is the club’s longest stretch without defeat in the top flight since 1962 – last tasting defeat in the 5-2 home loss to Chelsea back in September. Their run is all the more impressive when you take into account that they’ve also had to compete in the Europa League as well.

The run means they come into this one just five points off of the top four and a point above Sunday’s opponents, who’ll certainly be pushing for a Champions League spot come May next year.

Spurs have got off to a pretty decent start under their new manager, winning three of their four league fixtures with Mourinho at the helm. A win in this one and Spurs fans will start to believe that Jose is the man to guide them to the top four this season – of course, the game at home to Chelsea next week will be a huge indicator as well.

Opta’s Stats & Sound Advice

Tottenham are climbing the table again under Jose Mourinho, but Wolves are one of the Premier League’s form sides. They are unbeaten in 11 top-flight games, which is their longest such streak in more than 60 years. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are renowned for rising to the occasion, too, claiming 21 points against ‘top-six’ sides since the start of last season.

Dele Alli is one to watch, having rediscovered his best form since Mourinho’s arrival in November. He has as many goals (five) and assists (three) in nine league games this season as he managed in 25 last term.

Wolves are set to be much changed from the side that won in Europe in midweek. Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo made seven changes for the game against Besiktas and top scorer Raul Jimenez is among those set to return.

Spurs are also likely to restore many first-choice players, who were rested for the midweek trip to Bayern Munich.

Harry Winks could feature having returned to training after an ankle injury, while Tanguy Ndombele is unlikely to feature due to a groin problem. Meanwhile, Erik Lamela (hamstring), Hugo Lloris (elbow) and Michel Vorm (calf) all remain out.

Predicted Lineups

Wolves Patricio; Dendoncker, Coady, Kilman; Doherty, Moutinho, Neves, Jonny; Traore, Jota; Jimenez.
Spurs Gazzaniga; Aurier, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Vertonghen; Dier, Sissoko; Moura, Alli, Son; Kane.

Head to Head Record

Luka Modri,Steven Fletcher

The two sides have met on 95 occasions dating all the way back to 1908, and Tottenham have the edge over their West Midlands opposition in head to head results – winning 47 in all competitions.

Wolves, on the other hand, have picked up 28 victories, with 20 games ending in a draw.

Last season, we saw Sunday’s visitors edge out the corresponding fixture with a 3-2 victory before Wolves travelled to Wembley in late December and beat Mauricio Pochettino’s then-high flyers 3-1.

Recent Form

Only Liverpool can boast a better unbeaten run that Wolves at the moment as Nuno has managed his side’s build-up of fixtures expertly to start the season.

A second half hat-trick from substitute Diogo Jota helped the Midlands club to a 4-0 win over Besiktas in the Europa League on Thursday as Wolves, who’d already qualified to the knockout phase, finished second behind Braga in their group.

That result followed their entertaining clash with Brighton last weekend. Jota was among the goals once more as the Portuguese international scored the first and last goals of the game in a 2-2 draw at the Amex.

Diogo Jota

Spurs, meanwhile, were comfortably beaten by Bayern in the week as Mourinho fielded a second string starting XI in attempt to separate the men from the boys, if you will, in his squad. And really, it was only Ryan Sessegnon, Juan Foyth and substitute Oliver Skipp who impressed for the north London outfit in Munich.

Before that, we saw Mourinho’s men keep their first clean sheet since the Portuguese manager’s arrival as they blitzed past Burnley in a 5-0 rout – Spurs’ front four all impressed, while they looking relatively stout defensively for the first time in weeks, maybe months.

Here’s how these two have fared in their last five encounters.

Wolves Spurs
Wolves 4-0 Besiktas (12/12) Bayern 3-1 Spurs (11/12)
Brighton 2-2 Wolves (08/12) Spurs 5-0 Burnley (07/12)
Wolves 2-0 West Ham (04/12) Man Utd 2-1 Spurs (04/12)
Wolves 1-1 Sheffield United (01/12) Spurs 3-2 Bournemouth (30/11)
Braga 3-3 Wolves (28/11) Spurs 4-2 Olympiacos (26/11)

Prediction

All good things must come to an end and this is the week we’ll see Wolves’ unbeaten run in the Premier League come to a halt.

Heung-Min Son,Harry Kane,Dele Alli

Despite Spurs still looking a little vulnerable away from home, their 3-2-5 set up in attack should cause Wolves’ sub-par backline a few issues on Sunday afternoon, and you can expect the Lilywhites’ inside forwards to have plenty of joy in the inside channels.

Even though the likely absence of Tanguy Ndombele leaves Spurs void of any penetration and creativity in central midfield, Spurs’ dynamic front four should be enough to get past this Wolves side on Sunday afternoon.

Prediction: Wolves 0-2 Spurs
