Southampton vs West Ham United Preview and Prediction
Our prediction for this Premier League match
St. Mary’s Stadium will host Saturday’s football game between Southampton and West Ham United, the two teams who sit in the danger zone in the Premier League standings. The Saints head into the match following a 2-1 loss at Newcastle United where experienced attacker Danny Ings extended his goal-scoring run. Southampton are eyeing their third consecutive home win in the Premier League, and they are surely capable of making life difficult for the out-of-sorts Hammers.
The capital club did well to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last month, but their current form is anything but good. Considering that Southampton have been producing promising showings on home soil of late, we predict that the visitors are going to return to London empty-handed. In their last meeting in the Premier League, the Hammers outclassed the Saints 3-0, meaning that the hosts are hungry for revenge.
This match will be played on 15/12/2019 at 00:30
HIGHLIGHTED PLAYER (DANNY INGS)
Danny Ings is an English professional footballer who plays as a center-forward for Southampton in the Premier League. The Winchester born started his youth career with AFC Bournemouth’s Center of Excellence in 2008 and signed his first professional contract with the club a year after. He made his professional debut on the 6th of October, 2009, in a Football League Trophy match against Northampton Town.
In September 2010, Ings was sent out on an initial one-month loan to Conference club Dorchester for whom he scored his debut goal, coming in a 2-1 home defeat to Ebbsfleet United on the 11th of September. Following an additional month’s extension, the striker returned to Bournemouth in November, who sold him to Burnley in 2011. Ings’ four-year-long Burnley stint saw him make 140 appearances and score 43 goals for the club. It also earned him a high profile move to Liverpool, whom he joined at the start of the 15/16 season.
Contrary to his time at Burnley, Ings’ Liverpool tenure was forgettable. Restrictions on playing time due to injuries lead to him falling down the pecking order. At the beginning of his fourth season with the club, The Reds offloaded him to current club Southampton, initially on a season-long, which then cultivated into a permanent deal the following season. On the international stage, the 27-year-old has capped for England’s under-21 and the senior team, making his debut for the latter in a 3-0 European qualifier match against Lithuania on the 12th of October, 2015.
HIGHLIGHTED TEAM (WEST HAM)
West Ham United are an English football club based in East London. The club was founded in 1895 and it has to be noted that the club’s name was Thames Ironworks back then. The Hammers were playing their home games at Upton Park from 1904 until 2016, when they moved to the Stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
West Ham have won three FA Cup trophies (1964, 1975 and 1980) and they were runners-up in 1923 and 2006. The capital club finished the 1985/1986 England first division campaign in third place in the standings and that is the club’s highest placing in the top flight. West Ham United have strong rivalries with fellow London clubs, but Tottenham Hotspur are considered the club’s main rivals.
A number of top-class players were part of West Ham in the past and the likes of Joe Cole, Carlos Tevez, Paolo Di Canio, Paul Ince, Julian Dicks, Shaka Hislop, Michael Carrick and Slaven Bilic are some of them.
